George Walton Comprehensive High School Senior Jake Weiss Signs Commitment Letter To Join Eastern Michigan University Baseball Team

In a special signing event, Walton High School's Jake Weiss, 17, officially signed a commitment letter to accept a scholarship and play baseball as a member of the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. Scout Baseball, a leading national college scouting organization, ranked Weiss, an all-purpose outfielder, as a top-20 national Division I prospect in June 2014.

The Eagles, a Division I NCAA Mid-American Conference baseball team based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, will add Weiss to the roster as an incoming freshman in September 2015. “It’s an honor to be among the few players historically scouted from Marietta for the Mid-American Conference,” said Jake Weiss. “I look forward to becoming an Eagle, and to carrying on the legacy started by my mother Marci, a 1981 EMU graduate.”

Among Weiss’s current baseball activities are roster positions on three separate teams: the 18U Titans, Titans Sports Academy, Marietta, Georgia; the East Cobb Baseball High School team, Marietta, Georgia; and the 18U Schaumburg Seminoles, Chicago, Illinois. Over the past 12 months, Weiss has been showcased in tournaments in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and Iowa. Weiss began his baseball career at 5, playing as a member of year-round travel clubs at 11. In July 2014, he competed in Perfect Game’s WWBA World Championship, which draws the best talent in the country. During the tournament, Weiss impressed many of the nearly 200 college scouts in attendance, hitting .356 and achieving a 1.000 fielding percentage for more than seven games. In 2013, Weiss’s team, the 16U East Cobb Titans, won a national championship at the Sandlot World Series in Nashville.

In an October tournament hosted by Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, Weiss impressed the Eastern Michigan University coach by playing errorless baseball over four games and hitting .455 with a .625 on base percentage, five stolen bases, 6 RBIs, a double, two singles, and two home runs.

Weiss, who maintains a 3.5 GPA, enjoys spending time with friends and is a passionate sports enthusiast who successfully manages several fantasy football teams. His parents are Scott and Marci, and he has two siblings who graduated from Walton, Alexandra (‘07) and Monica (‘11).
