Doubles partners Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey faced off in the first main draw singles match of the BB&T Atlanta Open this afternoon. Both California natives who have practiced together since they were 12, the pair fought hard to move past the first round.

Querrey won in two sets, 7-6, 7-5. The first time visiting Atlanta, Querrey commented on the welcome he received in Atlanta, saying "hopefully, it's the first of many times I come back here."

The pair will play a doubles match against Denis Istomin (UZB) and Marinko Matosevic (AUS) tomorrow evening at the AJC Grandstand.
