For
the fifth year in a row, GA 400 will be closed on the south bound side from
Holcomb Bridge, Exit 7, to Northridge, Exit 6, from 7a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 30. The closure is to allow 2,000 cyclists to ride their bikes on GA 400
as a charity ride to help raise awareness and money to fight childhood obesity.
Route 9 will be the detour during that time.
For more information or to
register to your bike on GA 400 visit http://www.ga400century.com.
Riders will ride either nine, 22, 45, 62 and 101 miles options. The cost to
register is $40 for adults and $25 for kids ages 12-18 prior to June 26, $45 and $25
after June 25.
Every
year the southbound lanes have been closed completely to motor traffic to allow
cyclists the freedom and thrill of riding your bicycle on the road know as GA
400 motor speedway. The event is put on by the Junior Flyers a local Roswell
Youth Cycling Team and the local advocacy group Bike Roswell!
A
new addition to the ride this year is a 45 mile option and a flatter 22 mile
course. Five scholarships have been awarded to kids that applied, and it
includes a free bicycle and entry into the ride. The scholarship riders will be
escorted by some of the Junior Flyer racing team. The riders will take anywhere
from 40 minutes to complete the shortest course and up to eight hours to
complete the 101 mile course. There are seven rest stops and free music and
food at the finish.
The
45, 62 and 101 mile courses aren’t easy and include some of the toughest climbs,
like the three hills near the end known as the “Three Sisters”. The hardest
hill known as the big sister is climbing up from the City of Mountain Park to
the edge of Roswell. The routes and turn by turn directions can be found on the
event website www.ga400century.com.
