In Dallas, Texas last month, the Congress for New Urbanism
hosted the 14th annual Charter Awards. Kronberg Wall Architects, an
Atlanta based firm that retains expertise in architecture planning, urban design,
policy making and real estate development, earned top honors for their
rehabilitation project Iberville Offsites.
The project was located in New Orleans, and it joins
together historic preservation with green retrofitting. This was accomplished
by the restoration of 46 historic, language-based dwellings using environmentally-friendly
technology and their unique construction methods. Through this project, the
team behind it benefited from state and federal tax credit programs. This
includes a federal Choice Neighborhoods grant that allows low-income and
racially-varied residents the opportunity to engage in modern, green living.
The Charter Awards are awarded to remarkable achievements in
design and planning by the Congress for the New Urbanism, a nonprofit
organization. They, much like the Iberville Offsites, devote their cause to
creating sustainable neighborhoods.
Iberville Offsites was also the recipient of the National
Trust Historic Preservation Secretary’s Award for 46 affordable home
renovations completed by Kronberg Wall in 2014.
