Midtown Alliance 2014 EcoDistrict Luminaries

Fifth Group Restaurants’ dedication to sustainable and environmentally friendly business practices has earned three of its restaurants recognition as Midtown Alliance 2014 EcoDistrict Luminaries. Among the 19 Midtown businesses awarded this honor, South City Kitchen Midtown, Ecco and Lure are the only restaurants.

South City Kitchen Midtown
The Group’s debut concept, South City Kitchen Midtown, earned Green Luminary status while Ecco and Lure earned the highest honors as Gold Luminaries. Ecco set a new standard for the restaurant industry when it became Georgia’s first dumpster-free restaurant. Ecco’s goal is to maintain a zero-waste business model that will eventually become an industry norm. Lure demonstrates its dedication to the conservation of water with its rainwater pillow, an innovative device that captures rainwater from the roof and uses it for the restaurant’s toilets, saving Lure nearly 120,000 gallons of water annually. All three locations have recycling and composting programs in place, in addition to encouraging clean commuting for their employees, and adopting a “no idle” policy for their vendor’s delivery vehicles.

The Midtown EcoDistrict was created by Midtown Alliance in 2013 as a platform for the community to collaborate on initiatives that result in improved environmental and economic performance. Midtown businesses earn the Luminary designation by implementing green operational practices in the areas of energy, water, transportation and waste in an effort to make Midtown one of the most livable, vibrant and sustainable districts in the country. The program focuses on measurement, planning, performance and encouragement of sustainability methods throughout the company.
