In 2013, Kennesaw State announced that it would be joining the Big South Conference as an associate member and that its newly created football program would begin competition during the 2015 season. From Florida to Kentucky and everywhere in between, the South is home to some pretty spirited football fans. It comes as no surprise then that the residents of Georgia are more than a little excited about the change. Fans are anxiously awaiting the sport’s arrival at KSU, as the Owls prepare to take the field next year.
On Tuesday, June 17, Brian Bohannon, his coaching staff and support staff participated in the program’s first official photo day, another sign that football fever is sweeping KSU. Photographers from KSU Athletics, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Marietta Day Journal were all present for the event. In addition, the five newest coaches who were hired prior to the National Signing Day in February were interviewed for a documentary on the building of the KSU football program. This film is expected to air later this fall.
KSU’s first class of 29 signed players will join Bohannon and his staff on campus in mid-August. Exactly 443 days later, the team will kick off its inaugural season on Sept. 3, 2015 in Johnson City, Tennessee, where the Owls will take on East Tennessee State. Nine days later, KSU will enjoy a home field advantage as it battles against Edward Waters during its first-ever home game.
Recently, the KSU Athletic Department announced that it has surpassed 3,000 season ticket deposits, meaning that 83% of available tickets have already been reserved. Season tickets are continuing to sell at a rapid pace, and only a projected 3,600 seats are available for purchase. Less than 600 tickets can be bought through the Letter of Intent (LOI) program before the department institutes a wait list. Right now, the only way to guarantee seats is to submit an LOI along with a refundable $20 deposit, since tickets will only be available through season ticket purchases.
The LOI Program is a formal request that requires a deposit to enter the Priority Seating Program, which selects seat locations among donors using a point system. This process is set to begin on Feb. 1, 2015 and will allow fans visiting the stadium to choose their seats based on their priority points standing.
KSU will compete in six home games during the 2015 season. Non-conference match-ups include Edward Waters (Sept. 12), Paine College (Sept. 19) and Point University (Oct. 10).
