Atlanta Ranked in Top 10 Largest U.S. Metros for Walkable Urbanism

A report by the Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis at George Washington University School of Business in conjunction with LOCUS: Responsible Real Estate Developers and Investors lists Atlanta as one of the highest-ranking walkable urban places in the nation. Atlanta is currently ranked at eighth, but expected to move to the top five based on the city's potential for future growth of walkability.

The study also notes higher education levels and one-third higher GDP per capita in high-ranking cities, and the study's authors agree that the trend toward walkable urban areas with easy transit access is here to stay.

"As economic engines, as talent attractors, and as highly productive real estate, these WalkUPs are a crucial component in building and sustaining a thriving urban economy," says Chris Leinberger, president of LOCUS and author of the report. "Cities with more WalkUPs are positioned for success, now and in the future."
