Watch your toes! A nearly 300 pound, 7-foot alligator
has been spotted recently just north of Interstate 285 and Interstate 75 in
some swamp land in the Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area.
Park rangers have posted signs warning of the gator’s
presence, and visitors are urged to keep a close eye on pets and children.
Rangers also say this particular alligator has shown
no signs of aggression, but urge visitors not to provoke the reptile.
It has been assumed the gator was released into the
water after it outgrew its home. National Park Service officials say the
alligator was first seen five years ago near the park at Paces Mill Road. Attempts
to catch the gator in the past were unsuccessful.
