The
Atlanta Business Journal posted an article in March addressing reports stating how
metro Atlanta’s roughly 382,800 apartments are boosting the local economy.
The
National Multi Housing Council and the National Apartment Association released
a report declaring metro Atlanta’s apartment construction and operations contributed
$2.9 billion to the local economy, supporting 26,400 local jobs.
Statistics
show that about 761,300 metro Atlantans resided in apartments in 2011.
The industry
organizations’ report also addressed the Great Recession’s impact on apartment
buildings in the area. Building permits for apartments decreased by 82 percent
from 2007-2011.
This
positive job picture should help metro Atlanta continue to create jobs while
increasing occupancy levels in apartment buildings across the city.
The
report also noted that across the state, apartments contributed $24.5 billion
to Georgia’s economy supporting 580,000 jobs.
