United Way of South Central Georgia Partners with Autowranglers in National Campaign

United Way of South Central Georgia distributes monthly funding to a variety of groups, including the Backpack Buddies program in Turner County, Boys & Girls Club of Cook County, Christian Kitchen (soup kitchen) in Ben Hill and Literacy Volunteers GED program in Tift. In addition, UWSCGA has provided one-time grants to help underwrite a variety of short-term projects related to projects such as early literacy, teen health and after-school learning.

Enter Autowranglers, a nationwide car buying service of over 240 locations.
“We are pleased to be awarded the confidence to handle the complexities of such a large campaign with a nationwide reach,” said Barry Barbee, executive director of Autowranglers.

Autowranglers has a simple car buying process: visit the website; get a quote; accept and the car is gone in 24 hours and a check is left behind. 100 percent of proceeds go directly to the United Way network.

A very large portion of his business sends donations directly to charities.

“We [Autowranglers] buy any car, running or not,” said Barbee, “and we send the check to United Way.  In fact, we have previously worked with the Scottish Rite of the U.S.A. as a corporate partner for their fundraiser as well as the Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia.”

For cars donated through this partnership, Barbee and Autowranglers will send 100 percent of the proceeds directly to UWSCGA. Using an internal United Way system, UWSCGA will then process the donations and forward 95 percent to the local United Way serving the ZIP Code of the donor. The remaining 5 percent will cover UWSCGA administrative costs.

“As Autowranglers’ exclusive United Way partner, we are eager to offer this new donation option not only to our potential donors but to potential donors of local United Ways across the country,” said Millette.

UWSCGA will be soliciting vehicle donations and handle payment processing while Autowranglers will handle all processing related to the car itself.
Meanwhile, Autowranglers is eager to form partnerships with other charitable organizations.

“Anyone wanting a corporate partner in their charity should contact us.  We will work with any group, church, civic organization or school to raise money,” Barbee said.
